Smart Logos- from Birthday till Today

Sometime back we had a discussion about 'Some elements of logo designing'. Let me share with you some interesting facts and pictures about some famous brand logos.

1. Google

When Stanford University computer science graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin built a search engine in 1996, they named it 'BackRub' (as it could analyze backlinks). BackRub's logo was a scan-image of Larry Page's hand.
Later they named it as Google. The current official Google logo is designed by Ruth Kedar.

2. Apple

1976, the Two Steves built Aple-I homemade computer. Wozniak sold his HP calculator and Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen to finance the making of the Apple-I motherboards. The first Apple logo was a picture of Isaac Newton. It depicted Newton sitting under an apple tree - "Newton … A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought … Alone." Ronald Wayne, who actually founded Apple Computer along with Wozniak and Jobs, designed it. In 1998 Apple had a rainbow logo and currently is possesses this monochrome look.

3. Microsoft

1975, Paul Allen and his friend Bill Gates adapted the first computer language written for a personal computer. BASIC got the license from MITS. Allen and Gates' partnership was named "Micro-Soft". Later the hyphen got dropped and Microsoft became an official company.
In the beginning the logo had this groovy look. 1982, Microsoft got a new logo with a distinctive "O". In 1987, Scott Baker designed the "Pac-Man Logo" for Microsoft. It is in Helvetica italic typeface, there's a slash between the o and s, emphasizing the "soft" part of the name and conveying motion and speed.

4. IBM

1811, the International Time Recording Company and Computing Scale Company merged to form CTR (Computing Tabulating Recording Company) . CTR adopted a new name and a mordern logo in 1924. the name was IBM - International Business Machines Corporation. In 1947 the logo got simplified. the last modification was in 1972 with horizontal stipes symbolising 'speed and dynamism'.

5. KFC

Kentucky Fried Chicken better known as KFC was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1952. They shortened the KFC in 1991. Colonel Harland is always a part of the logo but his face has become more friendly with time. The current logo with a red apron is since 2007. yhg

6. Nokia

1865 - Fredrik Idestam started a paper mill on the banks of the Tammerkoski rapids, in southern Finland. The second mill was beside the Nokianvirta river. Thus Nokia got its name. The present Nokia logo with the slogan 'Connecting People' was invented by Ove Strandberg. It is the world's largest manufacturer of mobile telephones now.

7. LG
LG stated as two companies: Lucky Chemical Industrial and GoldStar, a radio manufacturing plant. GoldStar manufactured only radios and all sorts of electronics and household appliances. 1995, Lucky Goldstar changed its name to "LG" Electronics
